What We Do
Purdue Extension is a service tailored to meet the needs of Indiana, needs we know firsthand. Our educators, specialists, and volunteers live and work in all 92 Indiana counties. We provide the link between Land Grant research and Indiana citizens. In doing that we provide practical solutions to local issues. We provide information and expertise that’s available in the form you want, when you want it. That’s Purdue Extension, Indiana’s home team advantage.

Services Provided
Purdue Extension of Adams County provides educational programs and research based information in:

  • 4-H Youth Development
  • Economic & leadership Development

Consumer & Family Science
Consumer & family Sciences provides informal educational programs that increase knowledge, influence attitudes, teach skills and inspire aspirations. Through the adoption of application of these practices, the quality of individual, family and community life is improved. Specific programs include but are not limited to: Food Safety, Serv Safe Certification Course, Dining with Diabetes, Have a Healthy Baby, Professor Popcorn, MyPyramid, Living Well for Life and much more.

4-H Youth Development
The 4-H Youth Development program is the only federally authorized youth serving organization. It is also the largest youth serving organization in the country. It is a volunteer-lead organization that reaches youth through a variety of programs in both rural and urban settings. 4-H provides fun, educational opportunities at the local state, national and international levels.  4-H programs are hands-on, age-appropriate, and university –based. 4-H helps youth improve their self-confidence; learn subject matter; and develop important skills including leadership, citizenship, communication and decision-making that can be applied over a lifetime. For older teens, 4-H also offers opportunities to develop and test their leadership skills as 4-H volunteers and working with youth. For adults, 4-H offers opportunities for training in a variety of areas including youth development, instruction and more.

Family Nutrition Program
The Family Nutrition Program teaches practical skills such as basic money management, food safety, food preparation and shopping skills. The Family Nutrition Program is Free to those interested in participating. Education may be provided on an individual basis or group setting. Collaborating agencies include: Division of Family & Children Services, Head Start, EvenStart, Job Works, Love, Inc., Decatur and Berne Seniors, Crisis Shelter, Boys & Girls Club and Healthy Families.

Adams County Extension Homemakers
Adams County Extension Homemakers is a volunteer organization that strengthens families through continuing education, leadership development, and volunteer community service.

Meet The Staff:

Trisha Hockemeyer
County Extension Director

Trisha serves as the County Extension Director and Extension Educator in Consumer & Family Sciences with a specialty in Foods and Nutrition. Trisha received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degrees from Ball State University in Dietetics. She is a Registered Dietitian and has worked for Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service of Adams County since January of 1996. She resides with her husband and three children in Preble Township.

Brad Kohlhagen
Extension Educator, Agriculture & Natural Resources

Brad has served as the Agriculture & Natural Resource Extension Educator since August of 2001.

Jeff Nagle
Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development

Jeff has served as the 4-H Youth Development Educator since January 2005. Jeff received his Bachelor in Computer Technology and master of Education from Purdue University. Jeff is a 10 year 4-H member from Steuben County and has worked with the 4-H program and the Cooperative Extension Service in various roles for several years
