Traffic Tickets
The traffic division of the Adams County Clerk’s Office is responsible for receipting in the payments for Traffic Violations. When a ticket is issued by a law enforcemant agency, the following steps are involved:

FULL PAYMENTS: CASH, MONEY ORDERS, CASHIER'S CHECKS, OR CERTIFIED CHECKS ARE ACCEPTABLE DO NOT SEND CASH THROUGH THE MAIL!
Personal checks will be returned and your case treated as though you did not appear.
FAILURE TO APPEAR OR PAY JUDGMENT BY THE APPEARANCE DATE WILL RESULT IN AN ORDER FOR SUSENSIONOF YOUR DRIVING PRIVILEGES.
Before you admit to a violation you should be informed that:
- Your admission of a violation will have the same effect as the judgment of the court.
- A record of the judgment will be sent to the commissioner of motor vehicles of Indiana or the state where you received your license to drive.
You are entitled to a trial. If you dispute this ticket you must either appear on the scheduled date on the front of the or call the number above prior to that date. This will not be the date of your trial. You will then be given a trial date.
On the reverse side of the page is the schedule of judgments. If the offenses with which you are charged doe not appear, please call the Clerk regarding your fine, 260-724-5312.
If you admit the violation and wish to avoid appearing in court, follow these instructions:
- READ THE BACK of the TICKET, which the officer gave you.
- Find the violation with which you are charged on the ticket front.
- Sign the back of the ticket, and MAIL it with a MONEY ORDER, CASHIER"S SCHECK OR CERTIFIED CHECK, made out to Adams County Clerk for the amount indicated. Use the preprinted envelope. Allow 7 days for ticket to be available for payment in clerk's office in court house, 112 S. Second ST., Decatur
- FAILURE TO APPEAR OR PAY JUDGMENT BY THE APPEARANCE DATE ON THE TICKET WILL RESULT IN AN ORDER FOR SUSPENSION OF YOUR DRIVING PRIVILEGES UNTIL PAID.
- MINORS MUST APPEAR WITH PARENT OR GUARDIAN (UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE.)
If you have any questions you may contact the clerk at 260-724-5312, Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:30 p.m. The Adams County Prosecuting Attorney offers pre-trial deferral of traffic tickets to qualified individuals. The program requires participants to sign a contract with the prosecuting requires pay a non-refundable $137.00 fee. If you do not violate the terms of the contract, the traffic ticket is dismissed at a later time and no conviction appears on your driving record. If you violate the terms of the contract, prosecution of the ticket resumes.
